Bill Brownell joined SV2 in 2012 and was elected to the Board in 2013. He co-led the SV2 Strategic Plan development in 2013-14. Since joining SV2, Bill has been an active participant in the Environment and International grant rounds, the Impact Investing taskforce, and several Innovation Pilots. He has also served as a CEO advisor to several SV2 grantees.
The social sector has been an area of involvement for Bill for many years in various roles including the Stanford ACT Board and Board roles at Keys School and Castilleja School, where he added value in areas ranging from strategic planning to fundraising to technology. Early in his career he also worked in government in Washington DC and California.
Bill’s primary career experience has been in the technology sector, where he was Senior Vice President at Cisco Systems and Hewlett Packard, in various roles covering strategy, product marketing, and business development. He was also Vice President and Director at the Boston Consulting Group, where he served clients in technology, energy and communications sectors.
Bill has a BA from Stanford University in Economics and Political Science with Distinction, an MPP from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and an MBA from Stanford University, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar.
In his free time, Bill enjoys family time, travel adventures, triathlons, surfing, backpacking, and rooting for Stanford sports teams.
