Lance Fors

For the past decade Lance Fors has focused on transformative leadership for social change.

He has concurrently been the long-time board chair of the global network of Social Venture Partnerships (SVPs), Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund (SV2), New Teacher Center, Reading Partners, Silicon Valley Childrens Fund, and Strive Together (vice chair), helping each transition from a start up to the leader in their field. Lance is also a board member of Enterprise Community Partners and FSG, and a thought partner with other nonprofits, social enterprises, and venture philanthropy funds, as they re-imagine how to catalyze greater impact in their local, national, and/or global ecosystems.

Previously, Lance was the founder and CEO of Third Wave Technologies, building it into a leading biotechnology company, which made products that enabled the early detection and treatment of cancer.

Lance received his BA from the University of California at Berkeley and his PhD from the California Institute of Technology in molecular biology. He is an inventor of dozens of patents, received an Ernst and Young entrepreneur of the year award, and is a social entrepreneur in special needs housing. Lance is also an avid tennis player and swimmer, and writes and speaks on the potential of individuals, teams, organizations, and networks to provide transformative leadership.

Kim Meredith

As the inaugural Executive Director of the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society (Stanford PACS), Kim Meredith has been responsible for strategic leadership and consistent organizational growth, scaling Stanford PACS through the expansion of research and programmatic initiatives. Ms. Meredith joined in July 2009, then one year later led the team to acquire the Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR), and in 2012 launched Stanford PACS programs at the Stanford Center at Peking University.

Prior to joining Stanford PACS, Ms. Meredith served as the Chief Development Officer for Planned Parenthood Federation of America in New York City and Chief Operating Officer at Planned Parenthood Golden Gate in San Francisco. Ms. Meredith launched her business career at AT&T for nearly a decade.

Ms. Meredith serves on the Board of Directors of the George Lucas Education Foundation, Essential Access Health, YPO Pacific U.S. Gold Regional Board, and held a recent six year board term on Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund (SV2).

Ms. Meredith graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Economics. In 2005, she received a fellowship to the Stanford Graduate School of Business Executive Program for Nonprofit Leaders, and in 2018 was sponsored for the UC Berkeley – Haas School of Business, Berkeley Corporate Board Workshop.

Alexa Cortes Culwell

Alexa is the co-founder of Open Impact, a strategic advisory firm partnering with philanthropy leaders to envision, design and accelerate their impact. Her work focuses on strategic planning, leadership development, and speaking/teaching. For the past 25 years she has built and managed foundations and philanthropic initiatives for successful entrepreneurs, including serving as the founding CEO of the Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation. Alexa also served as a visiting practitioner at Stanford University’s Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society and, for more than a decade, served on the board of the Center for Effective Philanthropy. Currently, she is a long-standing board member of New Door Ventures, a youth development organization serving the Bay Area and is a Leap Ambassador focused on promoting higher performance in the nonprofit sector.

Kelly Pope

Kelly spent 25 years as a software executive developing interactive media and educational technology products for teachers and students. Since transitioning into the non-profit sector, Kelly’s focus has been in education, with specific interest on early learning, out of school time, and personalized learning. She currently serves on the Board of Directors at New Teacher Center, an early SV2 grantee.  At SV2, Kelly has participated as a grant round leader and lead partner, and is primarily focused on education and impact investing. Outside of SV2, Kelly serves on several education focused non-profit boards and advises numerous early ed-tech start-ups.

Bill Brownell

Bill Brownell is a member of the SV2 Advisory Board and past Board Chair at SV2.  He is also a Board member at Social Venture Partners International and Schwab Charitable.   He is a lead partner on ICA and Pasturemap and co-leads the environment grant round.   Bill’s primary career experience has been in the technology sector, where he was Senior Vice President at Cisco Systems and Hewlett Packard, in various roles covering strategy, product marketing, and business development. In his free time, Bill enjoys family time, travel adventures, triathlons, surfing, backpacking, and rooting for Stanford sports teams
