I had the pleasure of interviewing a past SV2 Grantee - Janet Knipe, Executive Director of National Foster Youth Action Network:
Q: What impact has SV2 had on the National Youth Foster Action Network?
A: The Action Network was only an idea in my mind when SV2 funded it three years ago, but now we’re expanding our work throughout the country.
Q: What have you been up to lately?
A: In honor of Foster Care Awareness month in May, we collaborated with U.S. Representative Karen Bass's office to provide the first-ever Foster Youth Congressional Shadow Day for 26 youth from around the country, which was followed by a briefing on child welfare on Capitol Hill.
Q: What exciting plans are ahead?
A: Our “Leaders for Change” conference in August will be the first-ever national convening of its kind, bringing together foster youth from all across the United States to receive training on leadership development, public speaking and self-empowerment from experienced young adult trainers who have a personal history of living in foster care.
