Nancy Heinen joined SV2's Board of Directors in 2009, became Vice Chair 2011, and became Chair in 2012. She has participated in the Education grant round and Partner Advisory Board, and served as Co-leader of this year’s International grant round.
Nancy is an experienced corporate lawyer and senior executive in both small and multinational corporations.
Most recently, Nancy was Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Apple, Inc. In September 1997 Steve Jobs recruited Nancy as a key member of a small executive team at Apple focused on turning around Apple’s struggling computer business and leading its successful re-emergence as an industry leader and consumer product powerhouse. Nancy was the chief legal officer responsible for overseeing all legal matters and government affairs for Apple worldwide until May 2006.
In 1994, Nancy went to work for Steve Jobs as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at NeXT Software, Inc. where she managed all legal matters and was a member of the executive management team and secretary to the Board of Directors. She was counsel for NeXT in its acquisition by Apple in February 1997.
Before her work at NeXT, Nancy served as group counsel and assistant secretary at Tandem Computers Incorporated (prior to its acquisition by Compaq) where she managed legal affairs for US sales and marketing operations and various operating divisions. Previously, Nancy was in private law practice in San Francisco and Palo Alto.
Following 25 years of corporate and law firm experience, Nancy is now focused on philanthropy and matters of social justice. She is particularly interested in access to quality education and the creation of economic opportunities for disadvantaged women. Nancy currently serves on several advisory boards including the Advisory Board of the University of California Berkeley Center for Law, Business and the Economy. She also consults with individuals, start-ups and nonprofit institutions looking to develop their organizational capacity for growth.
Nancy received an B.A. with honors in Psychology and English from the University of California at Berkeley and holds a J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall).
